Andrew Palmer specialises in logistics network design and quantitative modelling techniques, and is the original author of the CAST network design software which is used by more than 300 major companies around the world. He is a visiting lecturer at various universities in Europe and is currently involved in two research projects involving the sustainability of freight transport and collaboration to improve vehicle capacity utilisation and reduce empty running. One is with the newly formed Centre for Sustainable Road Freight; a joint venture between Cambridge and Heriot Watt Universities, and the other is a three year project sponsored by the European Commission. He has published many articles, and is a regular speaker at logistics planning and sustainability conferences.
