Port of Ghent is a medium-sized port in the Hamburg-Le Havre range.
It handles app. 50 million tonnes of waterborne cargo. Ghent is a multipurpose
industrial port traditionally handling dry, liquid and breakbulk commodities.
The port has excellent hinterland connections to the Netherlands,
Germany and France and short sea connections to Scandinavia,
the Baltic, the UK and East Med. Nautical access is up to Panamax-size vessels.
For further development the port has 660 ha of greenfield
land are available of which large parts are reserved for distribution

Traditionally, Port of Ghent has several well equipped terminals for
handling and storing steel, cars, containers, forest products, chemicals,
agribulk, fertilizers, fossil and biofuels and project cargo. Strategically,
the Ports aims to build out its current activities with an emphasis on
distribution, logistics and supporting company's supply chain. For this purpose
Ghent is building a multi modal container terminal and reserves space for large
scale investments in European Distribution Clusters. Rail connections to
Scandinavia, Central Europe and Italy are in place. Others are being developed.
